St John’s Wood resident Dr Eva Schloss, 93, who survived Nazi concentration camps, and has spent her life promoting peace, was honoured to join in a dance with King Charles during his visit to the JW3 Centre in Finchley Road as part of a Chanukah celebration.

Eva moved into an Amsterdam apartment block with her parents and brother where Anne Frank’s family also lived in 1940 and they became friends. Both families went into hiding to escape from the Nazis before being betrayed and sent to Auschwitz Birkenau.

King Charles took part in a traditional dance and was presented with a Chanukiah of eight candelabras by the founder of the community centre, Dame Vivian Duffield.
