Dedicated to the philosophy of idling, along with "fun, freedom and fulfilment" this summer’s Idler Festival’s all-star line-up includes St John’s Wood resident comic Sindhu Vee, Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh, podcaster Adam Buxton and design guru Kath Kidston. Staged in the house and gardens of 17th century National Trust property Fenton House over the weekend of July 7-9, agony aunts, tarot readings, harmonica, philosophy, bibliotherapy and beekeeping with be on offer. Events include discussions on Business for Bohemians with Cath Kidston MBE, a new neuroscience with Anil Seth, and the cultural links between India and Iran with William Dalrymple. Irvine Welsh will be in conversation with Idler editor Tom Hodgkinson. On display will be Fenton’s collections of 17th-century needlework and ceramics featuring Chinese and 18th-century pieces. Fenton was given to the National Trust by the last owner Lady Binning in 1952.
